The Process
1. Plan
I take the time to listen so I can understand what matters to you and what you want to achieve through the photographs. We’ll develop a brief, talking about the stories you want to tell, and if you’re an actor, the roles you’ve played and the opportunities you’ve set your sights on.
2. Create
In a safe, creative space (usually my London studio), we’ll explore, experiment, and mix it up. Playing with light and backdrops, I’ll capture a range of characters, styles and moods. My sessions are unlimited, which usually means between 3 and 5 hours. There will be lunch, good tunes, and plenty of time for you to settle in and for us to connect.
3. Review
At the end of the shoot, we’ll sit down and review the images together. Looking at hundreds of photos of your face can be overwhelming, but I’ll guide you with an objective view on what makes a great photo. And if we’ve missed something, there’s always time for another shot.
4. Select
You simply select the images you’d like to buy. I don’t sell packages, so you only pay for our session and the photos you love. Most people choose around 12, especially for Spotlight and other online profiles, as there’s a huge advantage to having a varied portfolio.
5. Edit
I’ll do some very light skin retouching so it looks like you’ve had a good night’s sleep and grade the images (check out Work for my style). You’ll receive the shots within ten working days. If you need them sooner, just let me know. Shoots include a one-hour top-up session within a year, and you just pay for the images.
If you book a full shoot, this also includes a one hour top up session within a year, where you can come back and get a top up on the headshots - you just pay for the images.

About My sessions
Time to create work that truly does you justice and builds connection with your audience.
My full sessions are unlimited, which means I’m not watching the clock - we work together until we have the perfect shots. This means all my attention is on you, and it is truly bespoke. Unlike many photographers, I don’t try and rush this process by having shorter sessions, many of my clients enjoy the relaxed atmosphere created by spending four to five hours in the studio creating.
I only book ten of these sessions per month, and only one per day. So I’m never rushing, or trying to fit you into a tight schedule.
You are unique and your headshots should be too! I work with you across an afternoon to produce really beautiful and stand out photography that you can feel proud to display.
Session fees don’t include any images because I don’t want to predetermine how many images I think you’ll want - so, it’s best to make that decision when we’re looking at the images together.

FAQs

The best way to do this is to go to my booking page here and check my calendar for available dates. My sessions usually get booked up a few weeks in advance so if you can’t find an available date, just email me.
-
This is up to you. Ask what style you like, are you after something light an airy, or more dynamic and serious? Perhaps you like deep shadows, or beautifully balanced lighting. Check out photographer’s portfolios, what you see is the way they shoot. Is there a similar style throughout their work? These are all about personal taste and what you need these shots for. I aim to provide high quality headshot and portrait photographs that will give you the tools you need to grow your business or profile.

There are some overlaps between the two genres of photographs. In the simplest terms, a headshot is a professionally taken portrait that focuses specifically on the face and shoulders. I shoot these in both the British (portrait orientation) and American (landscape orientation) styles.
In today’s connected world, a modern headshot comes in useful for anyone looking to market themselves professionally (or personally — don’t forget about online dating profiles). -
My full headshot and portrait photography sessions are unlimited, this means we can work until we get the right shot, but if time is a premium, you can come in and get the shot done quickly. To book me for a full shoot, I charge £400 booking fee. You are then able to choose whichever images you want to buy. I charge £60 per image. So, you only buy the images you love. If you only want one or two shots for LinkedIn then my Just One Shot sessions are for you, and priced at £280 with one image included.

My studio is in Iliffe Yard, a beautiful old cobble mews near Elephant and Castle. All the other studios in the mews are creative businesses which creates a wonderful vibe.

After our headshot or portrait session, we will sit down in front of my computer and select which images you want to buy. I may have shot up to 1000 images, but don’t worry, as we’ve been going along, I’ve been selecting only the best shots. So, we’ll have a smaller selection to go through. I will guide you with your selections, but the final choice is yours!

I use a combination of Adobe software - Photoshop and Lightroom. I do light skin retouching and tidying up, just enough to make you look your best, but not unrealistically smooth (this is a headshot or portrait not a fashion or beauty image). I then do a colour balance adjustment and some small tweaks to the eyes to make them pop, and some general edits. Please check out my portfolio to get a sense of how I edit. If you require something more artistic, or are after a specific look, please ask and we can discuss this. If you just want a B&W version of your shots as well, then let me know and I’ll throw them in at no extra charge.
-
I will retouch and edit your images and send them to you on Google Drive within ten working days. You will get both web optimised JPEGs and print ready TIFFs. I also sell prints, so ask me about that if you’d like to print your shots.
-
As the photographer I own the rights to the images, but you own a license to use them for fair use. This excludes selling, distributing as though they were your own work, using them for commercial use such as advertising, or placing them in publications without my approval.
I am entitled to use my work for advertising and marketing purposes, to enter competitions, or to display in exhibitions. Should you wish to purchase the sole rights to your images (which would allow you to use them for commercial purposes and would prevent me from displaying them on my site or for marketing purposes), please let me know and we can work out a fair price.
-
Nope. Simply, editing is such a integral part of image making that I won’t let a photo go out in the world without an edit - my reputation is on the line. But also, my accountant would be very angry if I just started giving away my “product” for free.
-
Nope, sorry. Again this is about my reputation. However, there may be circumstances where this is negotiable, such as if you wanted to add a colour tone to the images for your branding, but please discuss this with me before the shoot.
-
During the shoot I will often show you the back of the camera and help you with your posing. If you don’t like the direction we’re going in, just say. It’s much easier to make changes to the shoot as we’re going along rather than afterwards.

I shoot on a Fujifilm GFX50s ii which is a beautiful medium format camera. On the front of this is either my Zeiss Otus 85mm 1.4 or the classic portrait lens from the 1980s, Canon’s 85mm FD 1.2L. The Zeiss is an absolutely incredible piece of engineering art that is tack sharp but also very characterful The Canon is a beautiful, flattering vintage lens. For lighting I use either natural light from the window, or continuous LED lights from Nanlite and Apurture. I find continuous (rather than flash) lighting gives a much more controllable and predictable result and also makes your pupils smaller, showing off the colours of your eyes beautifully. I have a number of lighting setups I use and will often move between them during a shoot to give a variety of images to choose from.

If you’d like to reschedule your booking, please give me 48 hours notice. You will be able to reschedule your booking once for free. If you need to reschedule a second time, I will charge a £100 rescheduling charge. If you cancel within 48hrs, the session fee is non-refundable.
