THE ACTOR’S HEADSHOT
Ayanna, an actor from Trinidad and Tobago, had approached me because she was in London for a screening of her film at the BFI. Both her and her daughter, Yidah, needed actor’s headshots. Ayanna had done a lot of research, and had shortlisted me along with two other photographers - she had also really delved into all our online content. Just goes to show, your portfolio is important. Ayanna had chosen me because she wanted something more than the standard actor’s headshot.
I love it when someone comes to me with this attitude! I am perfectly comfortable taking an actor’s headshot that fits certain industry standards, but I also think there’s a place in an actor’s portfolio for images that speak to more than that. I don’t take headshots with a cookie cutter approach, I’m much more interested in working closely with my clients to create unique images that don’t look like anything already out there. I want to stop the scroll, and make casting directors take note. I also think that when actors reach a certain stage of their career, they need imagery of themselves that looks more editorial in order to show their range, and let casting directors see them in certain roles. My approach will always be about producing high quality acting headshot images that bring them to life in the eyes of someone looking at that image.
This shoot was so much fun! We spent the whole day working together - first with Ayanna, and then with Yidah - their close family friend Alex, a model from NYC, was on hand to do hair and makeup and to offer moral support and posing advice. All incredible women - it was a joy to see them thrive and have a lovely day chatting, posing and just enjoying themselves.
