PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY RETREAT
UN/WOVEN
A week long portrait photography retreat hosted by Sissela Johansson & Tom Trevatt in Southern France
SOUTHERN FRANCE | AUTUMN 2026 | 8-10 PLACES
This intesive retreat is for photographers who want to go deeper, to learn how to develop their creative vision, align their business with their values, and create a lead generating practice. We want to help you un-tangle the recieved scripts and build a photography practice and business woven from your unique values.
We won’t just show you how we light, pose and engage with a subject, but why - this retreat is about finding out who you are as a photographer and doing it on purpose.
Our motivations to create meaningful, beautiful portraiture for our clients comes from within each of us - we can’t tell you why you should take photographs, but we can help you understand it. Our values based approach emerges from a desire to create a transformation for our clients. In this retreat we will spend a week together helping you explore your own values, what motivates you, and help you build a portrait practice and business that is aligned with those values.
Over a week in Southern France you will work, shoot, reflect and grow alongside seven other photographers and the two of us. You won’t leave with a list of tips, but a new way of working.

What you will take away.
Clarity on how to align your values with your photography
We will lead a series of workshops to help you explore and understand who you are, what makes you pick up a camera and why you do what you do. From these values we will help you build the central pillars of your photography practice and business. This helps you understand the why of your photography and helps you make sense of the decisions you make both behind the camera and when building your brand.
A new way of seeing people
Learn to read a person — their comfort, their defences, their moments of openness. Understand how to create safety in a session and what it takes to be truly present behind the lens. Often what someone hides is the most interesting subject for a photograph, learning how to help your subjects feel safe enough to trust you is the first step in producing groundbreaking images.
A deeper not wider portfolio.
We hate it when all a photography workshop shows you is how a photographer lights, poses and composes a photograph and then lets you do the same - no to everyone getting identical photographs. We want our retreat to help you go deeper into the experience of image production, to help you develop your own style, with tools we can provide you. No more replicated portfolios, we will help you go deeper into image making.
Who are we?
Two different photographers, a shared passion for photography that transforms
We - Tom and Sissela - work differently. Different countries, different aesthetics, different methods. That contrast is deliberate. You'll spend a week absorbing two complete approaches to the same profound challenge: how do you photograph a person truthfully?
Tom Trevatt
headshot and portrait photographer, london uk
My philosophy focuses on connection. I believe in the power of portrait photography to tell stories, build meaningful connections and create futures. But they have to feel true. That’s what my work, and my process, set out to do – to find the truth of the story, the moment, the person.
Sissela Johansson
editorial portrait photographer, Amhult sweden
More than 15 years of experience and a background as a professional model have given me a rare understanding not only of the discomfort of being on the other side of the lens, but also of what happens to a human when they feel truly seen. My editorial portraits — shot across Sweden, Denmark and internationally — are defined by their emotional honesty and the extraordinary trust I am allowed to build with every person I have the honour of photographing.
